Old map Case?

I picked this up at a local antique shop because I thought it was cool. All I was told is that it might be an old German map case according to the store owner. Is there anyways to tell if it is authentic as there seem to be alot of reproductions out there. It looks old but there are not really any markings on it to give an indication of age. There is a scratched name? on the front lid area and I believe it either says Szetas or Sletas but not sure (See the 3rd photo)
