Its not woodworking so I'm a little out of my realm with this one.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Spring lever.
The whole "stamp" is about 4 1/2" long.
    Black enamel or japanning
The bottom of the jaws looks like brass and the top is silver and soft (perhaps aluminum or lead?)

Crown logo on the knob, and there is a "1." cast into the base. No other distinguishing markings.

This is a "check protector." After writing the amount on a check you stamp over it with the device which "checkers" the paper and makes it impossible for someone to alter the amount.

      There it is. Thanks Ron!
