    Steel, 6" long, a scoop with a fairly sharp front edge, and a loop with a sharp bottom edge where they meet. Rustic, old, a little dirty like it was in a tool box. I cant figure this thing out. Anybody know what it is?

      I would say ember tongs. You would shake the grates, then pull open the ash pan and pick up and put hot coal or wood embers in a bed warmer pan to warm the covers. There are hundreds of designs. Longer handle for fireplace and shorter for ash pans. My 2 cents.

      the scoop is only about an inch long, its 6 " long overall
