This is a tool I’d found at a local junk sale and I’ve had no luck finding out what it is or what it was used for. The handle says it was patented December 11th 1900 but I’ve yet to find any record. I was told it was a book grabber but the shape to me looks a bit odd for that, any help figuring out what this is would be greatly appreciated!

The end would bite into the books. At the store, we sell a very similar product for grabbing small burning logs from a fire.

Personally I think these were used by store owners to retrieve items from high shelves.
