I just picked this piece up today and cannot find any viable information about it. I think it is African wood (very light in weight) and made for export perhaps. I actually purchased two. The other one is slightly different which I will put up also. They both were encased in a glass lidded shadow-type box with woven grass on all sides. Primitively sealed with black duct tape. I found one other precisely the same, but offered little if any good info.. Any light you can shed will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Your "primitive" description made me laugh! It's possible it could be ebony or ironwood. Kind of looks like something, nah, I haven't a clue! You're photos are dark too so it's hard to tell. Do they look like two pieces glued together? Hollow could be why they are so light in weight.

Hi Shareurpassion, the wood is definitely not ironwood or ebony. The wood is just too light in weight. The piece has been carved from one piece of wood.
I'm sorry you can't see the details well. If you click on the photo it enlarges it and shows the details much better.
      I appreciate you time.
Glad I was able to make you laugh...! I laughed myself after I read it again.
(I was thinking they looked like some sort of an ax head?? I'll keep hunting.)
