I don't know. It's 5lbs, copper over? Slit all way through, and removable pin. Found no makers marks

I'm thinking some kind of adjustable counterweight that would slide onto a rectangular bar (thru the slot) and be able to clamp onto it with the thumbscrew. (that threads into the hole?) Maybe something like a scale or a pendulum, or otherwise some part of a machine that would be deemed pretty enough for the decoration vs. just a plain chunk of iron...??
Could be a fence post top for metal fence, or the gate?
The top right picture..it appears there's decoration in the slot, similar to what's on top? At least it appears that way on my phone....odd piece.
Maybe there was 2 and a handle between...like on those big Chinese decorative engraved doors?
