A magnificent pair of Bohemian Josef Riedel, Polaun Vases.

The Riedel glassworks was founded in 1746 in Bohemia and reached its artistic excellence at the ending 19. century under the directorship of Josef Riedel the elder. In this time, arround 1890, my pair of large mirror image vases, each decorated by a thickly enameled magnificent golden pheasant standing on an exotic branch and surroundes by finely painted bamboo and flowers. They were produced in white opal glass which is covered by a very thin layer of satin finished skye blue glass. The vases are signed C.480 and are 31 cm tall with a maximum diameter of 21 cm and a weight of 1930 gr each.
