Here is my other lucky op shop find from Friday - a very attractive & unusual satin glass bowl.
I have loads of satin glass of various kinds but haven't encountered another like this one.
It is made from a single layer of clear glass that shades to pink & ruby towards the top. There is a silky smooth satin finish.
The bowl measures 5.5 cm tall, 12.5 cm across the widest part of the top rim, & 4.5 cm across the base.
There are several details which make this seemingly simple item so intriguing - the form is almost basket - like, but lacking a handle. Perhaps there was once a metal mount? Regardless, it works beautifully on its own. There is a subtle optic panel pattern, which leads to a rather unique octagonal polished out pontil mark. The folded in sides of the top rim, as well as the lozenge like shape is also appealing.
The high quality of the workmanship is evident in every aspect of the design.
I feel that this is most likely Bohemian origin, late 19th - early 1900s.
Perfect condition. And I think it probably is from the same lot of donated goods as the preceding green iridescent vase, & possibly the square sectioned green vase from the week before, as well. There's something about the aesthetic of all three items that suggests they were all once part of a thoughtfully curated collection.
