The first LANTERN candleholder was designed in 1999, was called RELATIONS and stood 60 cm. tall (the biggest piece Iittala had ever made). Some years later, it was renamed as LANTERN and two new designs were icluded in the series: a vase standing close to 22 cm. tall and a smaller candleholder standing 19 cm. tall. Since then, they have been reisued annually in different colours, but these green and blue ones were, along with the clear and white cased ones- the original colours.

In them we can also see the biological shapes od the allels of chromosomes.
