    I HAVE HAD THIS ASHTRAY FOR QUITE A WHILE. IT IS REALLY LOVELY, ART DECO I BELIEVE. IT IS MARKED GORHAM STERLING AND I WONDER IF ANYONE WOULD KNOW THE VALUE OF SUCH AN ITEM. THANKS

      I have a Gorham large bowl. As yours I'm guessing, it is marked E.P. meaning silver plated. Unfortunately, we won't get rich off of them! lol

      Sure it's an ashtray? Could also be a wine bottle coaster. Definitely not Art Deco, more like Rococo.

      There must be a style number on the underside that you can research in combination with the mark to find more information. You should also weight it and calculate how much the silver is worth, without considering the workmanship .       I agree with Spackova. But depending on its size it may not be a wine coaster....it may be too small. I have a few dishes of the smaller size that are referred to as "pin dishes". Google "silver pin dish" or "bon-bon dish" and you will see a variety of what I mean. If it's bigger then Spackova is right.
