I have a few ideas about what this might be, butI am hoping someone can confirm it's identity. The top has holes in it, as does the insert. Itis marked on the bottom (not clear in photo): a crown , Italy, 56
and what looks like a backwords 3 C.
The handle unscrews, but there is nothing inside it.
I thought it might be for brewing coffee/tea or some type of shacker.
    Any ideas out there?

Looks like a flour sifter my grandmother would use when making biscuits/dough to keep it from sticking as she was kneading it. Or could be a bakers shaker for sugar/confections.
