Sterling Siam Niello from Thailand

I bought this some time ago thinking it was Victorian. Was I ever wrong! After checking it out I found that the design actually depicts elephant trunks! This pin/pendant is possibly from the 1950's to 1970's. I learned that this kind of jewelry was a popular gift for wives and girlfriends of soldiers stationed in this area of the world. I guess that those pieces might have interesting stories to tell - if they could speak:)
