I was given this pretty little teapot by a neighbor when I helped her clean out her father's house after it was sold. I love it and tried to find out about it online but couldn't find anything similar. As you can see there is no mark on the bottom. It appears to be handpainted (at least the gold design does) with 10 circles the size of a quarter around the side with different Japanese (?) scenes. I'd love to know more about it.
It's Satsuma, surely.
Thanks! Once I knew what to search for, I found one the exact shape, with different (but similar) decoration. The other one was signed, the one I have isn't...does that make a difference?
The generic name of this pottery is kyoto yaki and it refers at the diferent productions made in the surroundings of the Kyoto prefecture, some of them coud be called satsuma but only the ones marked with the shimazu mon (a cross inscripted in a circule). Your example could be dated in the meiji period, more or less arround the beginning of the 20th century, is a beautifull example, congrats !!!
