Approx 4.5 inch diameter. Is it cut glass? Rough exterior.

Clear glass? crystal?

Purchased at at auction in Southern IL. I am just learning about glass. I like doing research, but at some point I just cannot find a like item.

your dresser jar (sans lid) is EAPG. The pattern is 'Cane Insert' by Tarentum Glass Co. c1906. The purple tinge (also called sun purpling) is from exposure to UV rays; so possibly kept in a window for extended time. Clear glass in the USA is called crystal; not to be confused with lead crystal from Europe requiring a minimum lead content. Nice jar : )

the purple doesn't look like sick glass but more when you hold it up to the light and can see the change. What is that referred to as?

sun purpling is the only thing that comes to mind; I'm not seeing any iridescence in the photos here.
