This item is part of a set of 6 and were made by Meridian Silver Plate stamped with the number 5037. Appears to be a holder of some type as a small bowl would fit into the item.

Piece is 5 1/2 inches long from bowl to handle and 1 3/4 inches deep.

Thank you. I thought that as well but it seems awkward with this type handle. Seems as though the cup would fall out.
