Real Antique Carved Chair? Key Words Needed to Identify

I just picked up this wonderful chair at a sale yesterday. I am guessing it is a legitimate antique but I know nothing about antique furniture to identify it or it's value. Can someone assist me in identifying an approximate time period it was made and some key words to do some good research on my own? The carvings on the chair appear to be hand done but unsure. The carved male profile appears to be that of a colonial man which may help date it if legit? Thanks in advance!
