Can anyone tell me a little more about this chest? I found it on facebook marketplace just outside of Baltimore, almost for free. The person I bought it from said it was his friend's family antique. My main questions are:
1). What is the origin of the chest? I've heard everything from Scandinavian to Germanic to French.
2). How common is stamping the year and initials into wrought iron at this time?
3). The date and initials stamp says '1740, MCZ'. Is there any hope of figuring out who that is?
It would help a lot if you edited your post and gave us a picture showing the whole chest.
