Trilobites existed from 521 million years ago to about 250 million years ago. They were marine arthropods like crabs and lobsters. The main purpose of the trilobites was to become fossils. There were so many that 22 thousand species were identified. This one is estimated at 270 million years ago.
This example is about 4 inches long.
